Nestled in the charming town of Choteau, Montana, Old Trail Ice Cream Parlour is more than just a stop—it’s a delightful escape for anyone craving a scoop of pure joy. This quaint ice cream shop exudes an old-fashioned charm that immediately transports you back to simpler times, where good things came in generous portions and smiles were always served alongside.
What truly sets Old Trail Ice Cream Parlour apart is its incredible variety of delicious, high-quality ice cream flavors that have delighted visitors and locals alike. From the rich, fresh huckleberry to the indulgent caramel apple and creamy strawberry cheesecake, every bite tells a story of carefully crafted flavors and premium ingredients. The waffle cones, frequently praised by patrons like Karen D and John William Wade, add a delightful crunch that perfectly complements the creamy scoops, turning each ice cream into a memorable treat.
Many customers highlight the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by the friendly, genuine staff behind the counter. Saad Arshad’s mention of the generous scoops and reasonable prices echoes a common sentiment: you get outstanding value without sacrificing quality.
The pricing at Old Trail is refreshingly fair, especially considering the generous portion sizes. Jessica Hall shares that a single scoop here is the equivalent of a double elsewhere, making it a fantastic road trip stop where you can indulge without hesitation. And it’s not just about quantity; it’s the richness of flavor and freshness that turns a simple ice cream break into a moment of pure bliss.
What touched me most about the Old Trail Ice Cream Parlour was how it so beautifully captures the essence of its community—friendly faces, lively conversations, and that undeniable small-town warmth. Farshina Nazrul’s recounting of the three-scoop banana split, lavishly topped and affordably priced, paints such a vivid picture of joy and satisfaction. Similarly, Neil Lansang’s experience sampling flavors and discovering their freshness highlights the genuine pride this parlor takes in its craft.
Whether you are passing through on your way to Glacier National Park or simply seeking a sweet treat to brighten your day, Old Trail Ice Cream Parlour offers more than ice cream—it offers an experience filled with kindness, flavor, and heartfelt connection. It’s the kind of place you remember long after the last lick, a sweet stop that stays with you, lingering like the taste of your favorite flavor on your tongue.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Sweet Stop I’ll Never Forget While driving from Alberta, Canada to Idaho, I passed through a beautiful little town that completely surprised me in the best way. The town itself was peaceful and full of charm, but what really made it unforgettable was a small ice cream shop I stumbled into. From the moment we walked in, the two young ladies working there greeted us with such kindness and genuine smiles it felt like visiting old friends. They clearly take pride in what they do, and it shows. The ice cream? Absolutely delicious. You can tell it’s made with care. Rich, creamy, and full of real flavor not artificial or overly sweet. It reminded me of the kind of ice cream I had as a kid authentic and comforting. Although I’m Muslim and my wife and kids are wears a hijab, we were treated with nothing but respect and warmth. I’ve heard people say that Montana is racist or Islamophobic, but that was completely wrong in our experience. The people in this town were kind, welcoming, and made us feel at home. This was more than just a snack stop it was a moment of joy and connection on a long road trip. The combination of great people, excellent ice cream, and a welcoming town left a mark on me. This place is now officially on my bucket list, and I’ll definitely be coming back. If you’re ever passing through don’t miss this spot. It’s a gem.

This whole 3-scoop banana split with lots and lots of chocolate and whipped cream (don't forget the ) toppings was only $6.5 Everyone in choteau seems nice and are always smiling. This ice cream parlor and the neighborhood is no different. And the best part is, they were surprisingly open on the labor day holiday

A cute little old style ice cream shop that is the perfect place to stop off at on a hot day! Located just next to the Visitor Center, there is plenty of parking. Inside there are a number of delicious flavours for a good price. The waffle cones are my personal favourite. The 2 ladies working here are proud to know that they are supplying the town with the "Best Ice-cream in town!" Stop in and stay a while.

Stopped by the visitors center to use the restroom on our way to Glacier National Park. So glad we found this ice cream shop. The flavors were so good. The young lady behind the counter was awesome and let us try samples so we could narrow down our choices. And the prices were amazing. Child scoop for $2.50 but the size of a regular scoop. Huckleberry ice cream was so fresh and yummy.

What a cute little place! The ice cream is delicious and very well priced for what you get. They have a variety of fun flavors to choose from. The "single" scoop is basically equivalent to what a double would be at most places, so if you get a double, be prepared for a challenge! Only $3.50 for a single scoop and $4.00 for a double at the time of this writing. A great road trip stop.
